A simple way to raise your vibe and create light within yourself

Do you know this quote by Clarissa Pinkola Estes?

Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it.

If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.

We’re heading into the darkest part of the year. Correction, we are already in the darkest time of the year (at least in this part of the world). And with all that is going on in the world– I mean that both literally and metaphorically right now.  Do you know how to raise your vibe and create light within yourself? It’s actually really easy.

It does not involve stringing yourself with holiday lights though.  Sorry, that picture may be misleading. 😉   Though if that sounds fun to you, yes, do it! (And send me a pic!)  In today’s terms the way to raise your vibe and create more light is called, “self-care.” 🙂 I love that self-care is such a buzz word these days and that women especially (that’s where I see it the most) are encouraged to care for themselves.  We are so often used to caring for others and to putting our needs at the very bottom of the list of those we care for (never to be gotten to).

But to be honest I don’t really think self-care is just for self.  I think that’s a misnomer.  Who benefits from a mama who is refreshed and inspired, and not bedraggled? Who benefits from a wife or boss who is happy and balanced within their skin and spirit?  Who benefits from a woman or man who knows that she is of value and takes time to care for herself just as s/he does other people?  Answer: everyone.  As Clarissa PInkola Estes says feeling fully lit actually helps calm the tumult, yours and others.

Making light isn’t hard. It amounts to taking time on the regular to care for your own being. Whether to you that means a cozy movie and popcorn on the couch with your loved one, long soaks in the bath with a book or candle light, evenings after the kids go to bed at the dining room table with your adult coloring books, more time meditating, or time with your knitting needles.  (Those are all on my list of loves to do.) Finding the ways you like to replenish your own being and doing them makes you more buoyant, more flexible when you need to be, and raises your vibe allowing you to pass that on to others.

Do you know what you love?   When I ask my Intuition University students sometimes they know and sometimes they don’t. I’ve got a long list of things I love. I add to it whenever I think of something.  I keep it in a place that I can turn to easily when I need a reminder (like my phone or the back page of a notebook).  Because sometimes, when we are feeling depleted we literally can’t remember what rejuvenates us!  That’s the time we need to be adding the most light!

So before the holiday season turns into a long To Do list and non-stop events—make your list.  Turn up your light.  The people you see during the holidays might not thank you out loud—but nevertheless they’ll probably be refreshed by your unharriedness, your peaceful ways, the equanimity that comes from caring for yourself.

Love,

Aimée

P.S. If you need a little extra help– like a hot bath isn’t going to do it– check out this article on tapping.  It’s SO easy, quick, and immediately transformative.

P.P.S. I take inspiration wherever I can find it.  Lately I’ve been inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert’s weekly practice of “Take myself out to breakfast alone.” And I absolutely love these two: Glennon Doyle (author of “Love Warrior” and founder of Together Rising) and her wife, Abby Wambach.  Their response to the swearing in of Judge Kavanaugh was to post this quote by Alice Walker: “Hard times calls for furious dancing”  with some singing and dancing that makes me smile every time I see it!
