Flower petal ice cubes. They make me happy.

I’m totally into edible flowers.  Mostly because I love color and beautiful things, and I love the idea of my food incorporating that beauty.

I’ve been wanting to do it for so long– but for whatever reason it took me until recently to make it happen.  It couldn’t be easier.

Fill ice cube trays.

Add flower petal to each cube.

Freeze.

Use.

Repeat.

I’m so in love with this (as are my kiddos) that I’m doing it almost every tray these days.

IMG_0485We have these great roses in our yard that are beautifully colored, but a little hard to pick for cut flowers– I’ve been using those.

I’ve also added some Calendula petals to some cubes.calendula flowers

The confession is, although I would eat these in a salad easily, they don’t really taste that great alone just in water.  Still, they infuse your drink with goodness and beauty so in my opinion, even though I ultimately throw out (not ingest) the petal, it’s still totally worth it.

Of course I only use the flowers from our garden because I know they are organic and pesticide free.
